The Mission: Every town on this spinning rock has one. I’m talking about a Local Legend—a person who is the destination.
It’s the shopkeeper who has run the same stall since 1962 and knows every secret in the valley; the street performer who’s a fixture of the piazza; or the mountain guide who speaks to the birds. This week, share a story about a person you met on your travels who taught you more about a place than any guidebook ever could.
“You spend all your time staring at monuments made of stone, completely ignoring the ones made of flesh and bone,” Atlas huffs, readjusting his bow tie. “Buildings don’t have stories; people do. Go out and actually talk to someone. Find the person who holds the keys to the local history and listen for five minutes. It might actually broaden those narrow horizons of yours. Don’t just take a photo—take a lesson!”
How to Enter:
- Log in to visitplanner.co.uk.
- Create a Story in the “Share the Story” or “Hidden Gems” category.

The Reward:
The most soul-stirring or surprising encounter will be awarded the “Human Compass” badge. Atlas might even admit that humans aren’t entirely a waste of space—though don’t count on it.
Now, go. Be social. It’s a terrifying thought, I know.
