⛷️ Skiing & Snowboarding Terrain

Vogel caters well to beginners and intermediates, with significant appeal for freeride enthusiasts when snow conditions are right.

🔵 Beginner (Easy)

  • Pistes: Approximately 9.5 km of slopes.
  • Learning Area: A dedicated children’s park and gentle nursery slopes are located at the top of the cable car near the main ski area.
  • Facilities: Ski school and equipment rental are readily available at the upper cable car station.

🔴 Intermediate (Medium)

  • Pistes: Approximately 12.5 km of slopes, making it the primary focus of the resort.
  • Highlights: The runs stemming from the upper cable car station and the lifts like Orlove Glave offer good variety. The long descent down the Žagarjev Graben (when open) is a must-do.

⚫ Advanced (Difficult)

  • The resort primarily features blue and red runs. True black/advanced pistes are limited.
  • Freeride/Off-Piste: Vogel is famous for its freeride potential. With its natural snow, there are many opportunities to explore off-piste terrain. It is highly recommended to hire a local guide if venturing into the backcountry for safety and the best routes.

  • Vogel boasts one of the largest and only high-level Snow Parks in Slovenia, with features (kickers, rails, boxes) for both beginners and professionals.

The ski area itself is located high above Lake Bohinj and is primarily accessed by a single, spectacular cable car ride.

Vogel Ski Centre is located at Ukanc 6, 4265 Bohinjsko jezero, right next to Lake Bohinj.

✈️ By Plane

The closest international airport is Ljubljana Jože Pučnik Airport (LJU), approximately 65 km away (a 1-1.5 hour drive). Transfers, private taxis, or bus connections are available.

🚂 By Train

The nearest train station is Bohinjska Bistrica, about 10-11 km away. From there, you can take a bus or taxi to the cable car base station. There’s often a special Ski Train/Bus deal available.

🚌 By Bus/Car

  • Drive to the cable car base station near Lake Bohinj (Ukanc).
  • A free Ski Bus service often operates around the Bohinj area during the winter season, connecting local villages (like Bohinjska Bistrica and Ribčev Laz) to the Vogel cable car base station.

🏔️ Cable Car

The main cable car takes you from the valley floor (569 m) up to the upper station (1,535 m) in just over four minutes, offering incredible views. The ski resort proper begins at the upper station.


🍽️ Amenities and Après-Ski

While the evening scene is generally quiet and relaxed, there are great spots for dining and soaking up the views.

On the Mountain

  • Ski Hotel Vogel: Located right at the top of the cable car, offering accommodation and traditional Slovene food with magnificent panoramic views.
  • Restaurant Viharnik, Merjasec Hut, Orlove Glave Hut: Mountain restaurants/huts for meals and refreshments.
  • Macesen Bar/Kavka Bar: Good spots for a post-ski drink.

In the Valley (Lake Bohinj Area)

  • The villages around Lake Bohinj, such as Ribčev Laz (nearest) and Bohinjska Bistrica (larger village), offer a variety of hotels, restaurants, and accommodation options.
  • Après-ski is generally low-key and focused on relaxation, though there may be a few friendly bars.
