Atlas Weekly Challenge

The Mission: I’m done with the “drive-in” viewpoints. If you can see the horizon from the window of a tour bus, it doesn’t count

. This week, we are looking for a view that requires a hike.
We want to see the vistas that cost you a bit of sweat, a higher heart rate, and perhaps a few choice words directed at a steep incline. Whether it’s a jagged peak in the Lake District, a hidden coastal cliff in Madeira, or a sunrise over a volcanic ridge—tell us how long the trail was, how many times you thought about turning back, and why the view from the top made the struggle feel like a bargain.

“Oh, look at you, actually using those expensive hiking boots for something other than walking to the coffee shop,” Atlas grumbles, his brass stand creaking as he adjusts his tilt toward the higher altitudes. “Most humans treat my mountains like background scenery for their lunch. Pathetic! If you haven’t felt the air get thinner and your legs get heavier, you haven’t earned the right to look at the horizon. Go on, get some mud on your shins and find me a perspective that hasn’t been spoiled by a parking lot. And don’t you dare complain about the incline—I’m the one carrying the whole world, and you don’t hear me whining!”

How to Enter:

  1. Log in to visitplanner.co.uk.
  2. Create a Story in the “Atmospheric Escapes” or “Hidden Gems” category.
  3. The Details: Tell us the name of the trail, the approximate elevation gain, and the exact moment you reached the “payoff” view.
  4. The Tag: Use #AtlasHikeView so the old boy can verify your altitude.

The Reward:

The most breathtaking and hard-earned story will be awarded the “Summit Seeker” badge. Atlas might even grant you a momentary reprieve from his lectures on “modern laziness.”
Off you go. The view isn’t getting any better while you’re sitting there reading this!
Atlas is worried you’ll forget your water bottle—would you like Miles the Suitcase to generate a “Rugged Day-Trip” packing list to ensure you actually make it to the top?
