The Mission: We want you to prove that you don’t need a Michelin star to have a life-changing meal. Share a story about the best meal you’ve ever had for under £5 (or local equivalent).

I’m talking about the steaming bowl of noodles from a night market stall, the perfectly flaky pastry from a back-alley bakery, or that one taco you ate while sitting on a plastic crate that tasted better than any three-course dinner. Tell us what it was, where we can find it, and exactly how many coins you had to dig out of your pocket to pay for it.

“You lot spend more time photographing your fancy avocado toast than actually tasting it! It’s a culinary disgrace,” Atlas huffs, his monocle fogging up with indignation. “Fine dining is just an excuse to charge you for the tablecloth. If you haven’t sat on a curb or stood in a queue with the locals for a meal that costs less than a fancy coffee, you haven’t lived. Go find me some flavor that hasn’t been ‘curated’ by a marketing department. And for heaven’s sake, wipe the sauce off your face before you take a picture!”

How to Enter:

  1. Log in to visitplanner.co.uk.
  2. Create a Story in the “Hidden Gems” or “Share the Story” category.
  3. The Details: Tell us the dish, the price, and the exact spot (even if it’s just ‘the blue stall near the station’).
  4. The Tag: Use #AtlasCheapEats so the old boy can verify your budget.

The Reward:

The most mouth-watering budget-friendly story will be awarded the “Thrifty Taster” badge. Atlas might even admit that your “tourist palate” is improving.
Off you go. My stomach is rumbling—and it’s made of solid metal!
Atlas thinks you look a bit hungry—would you like me to help you narrow down a specific region for your next budget food hunt?
